READING
For  homework this term I would like the Year 6 students to pick up a book and read it each night.  Some time for silent reading and some time to read to you as parents.

Take some time to ask your children about what they are reading. Something that you can talk about with them is what connections do they make with the book. For example, have they had a similar experience to a character in the book or do they know someone who has. Is there a part in the story that reminds them of something in their life? Have they felt like the character in the book? Is there a difference between the character in the book or events they have experienced. Or Have they read another book  or watched a movie that is similar to the one they are reading now? Is the character/s similar to another in another book?

For more information on MAKING CONNECTIONS, read about it on the Reading Comprehension page on my Blog.

MATHLETICS
For Mathletics this term I will be setting tasks as well as expecting the children to do Live mathletics to sharpen their skills. Spread out your tasks so you do a few each night. I will be keeping tabs of who completes their Mathletics each week.

WRITING RESPONSE- 4 week task (This is now complete)
The writing response task is asking you to respond to a world current affair or local affair found in a newspaper delivered to you at home or on a newspaper publication found on the internet. A good example of one of these online newspapers  is www.smh.com.au.  This task must be completed EACH WEEK - this means you will submit to me 4 newspaper responses at the end of 4 weeks. 1 of these responses will be presented to the class (you choose which one). It is up to you how you would like to present your response - using an iPad app, poster, powerpoint etc.

To respond to a current affairs topic or an event you found in your local newspaper or online you can follow some of the guidelines listed below:
Prove you have read and understood what you have read
Make opinions about the event
Express ideas about the event by saying what it made you think about or taught you – link it to life or other experiences where appropriate,
Support all your opinions with appropriate, specific evidence (quotations and details) found in the newspaper or online.
If you have any questions about this task please ask me and I will help you to understand the task and how to complete it.

Each week 6 children will be asked to present their written response to the class

GENIUS HOUR
Research your question to find information. Work on your presentation. You will present your work in Weeks 9 and 10.

BLOG
Keep your blog up to date. Your blog should include a photo for each school day and a paragraph about why you have chosen this image (at least 4 sentences). You should also be sharing some of your work. Choose the work you are most proud of for the week and put this on your blog. Remember if you are still unsure of how to do things on the blog ASK. There are many experts who can help you. We are all learning together.
